RCR news: opening green opportunities for China’s precast building and construction industry
On the other hand, the construction industry cannot turn a blind eye to today’s changing environment: owners tend to deliver projects faster to maintain the rapid pace of economic and social development; The environmental deterioration caused by climate change and resource scarcity requires the building environment to be more environmentally friendly and flexible.
China is experiencing rapid urbanization, which has generated and will continue to generate strong demand for buildings, bringing huge pressure on resources and environment to China.
However, can building precast components promote China’s construction industry to a more sustainable direction and further promote China’s green urbanization agenda? In order to answer this question, this study reviews the driving forces of green transformation in the construction industry and analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of precast building components in China from the perspective of productivity, resources and environmental sustainability.
The huge demand for new buildings will bring huge resources and environmental pressure to the country.

Therefore, the challenge of the transformation of China’s construction industry to a more sustainable direction is enormous and urgent.
In the world, buildings and construction projects account for more than one-third of the final energy consumption, and China’s total building area ranks first in the world.
The energy and environmental footprint related to buildings are significant.
Since 2013, the newly built building area has exceeded 4 billion square meters every year.
At the same time, this study identifies the green opportunities in the precast building supply chain and clarifies the main strategies, so that government departments, precast product manufacturers and contractors can make strong policies and decisions to reap the green benefits of China’s precast building initiative..
Prefabrication technology has changed the traditional architectural design and construction.
The Chinese government is vigorously promoting building prefabrication, which mainly depends on in plant manufacturing and on-site assembly of building components.
With the continuous urbanization and population growth in the world, the demand for buildings is also increasing.
It is expected that the strong pace of building construction will continue for several decades, with an increase of 33 billion square meters by 2040 and another 17 billion square meters by 2060.
Especially in China, the vigorous development of economy and the continuous development of society have created a strong construction market.
