Precautions for Testing Water Consumption of Cement Standard Consistency

It is difficult to find the water consumption of standard consistency, or even cause misjudgment.

(1) Before testing the water consumption for cement standard consistency using measuring tools, the water measuring instrument and electronic balance should be calibrated.

(3) Before testing the equipment, the Vicat instrument should be placed vertically and stably, and should not be operated in an environment with obvious vibration.

Before conducting the water consumption test for cement standard consistency, the working clearance value between the mixer blades and the bottom and wall of the pot should be measured, and the working clearance should be within the allowable deviation range of (2 ± 1) mm.

When the gap between the mixer blade and the pot bottom and the pot wall increases, the slurry is mixed unevenly, and the standard test rod sinking distance from the bottom plate is 0~8mm.

Generally speaking, if the water consumption of cement standard consistency is small, the unit water demand of concrete is small, the amount of admixture added is small, the strength is high, and the durability is relatively good.

If the accuracy of the water measuring instrument does not meet the requirements, an electronic scale with an accuracy of ≤ 0.1g should be used for weighing water.

The consistency achieved by cement slurry under a certain water consumption and specific testing is called the standard consistency of cement.

The vibration waves generated during the vibration molding and flowability measurement of the adhesive sand will increase the falling distance of the sliding rod in the cement paste in the Vicat apparatus.

When using the substitution method to measure the water consumption for the standard consistency of cement, the volume of mixed water added should be calculated based on the quality of pure water (distilled water) and the density of water corresponding to the laboratory temperature.

The gap between the mixing blades and the pot body will change, and it will also cause the shaft rigidly connected to the blades to bend, resulting in uneven mixing slurry and inspection deviation.

The larger the working gap value is, the greater the data dispersion rate is.

In addition, corrosion on the inner wall of the mixing pot, bending of bearings, deformation or wear of blades can all affect the detection results.

The water consumption of cement standard consistency is an important indicator of cement quality.

When testing the water consumption of cement with standard consistency, vibration tests such as cement sand molding and sand fluidity measurement should not be conducted simultaneously.

Before conducting the test, it is necessary to check whether there is cement dust that adheres to the sliding rod of the Vicat instrument, causing an increase in sliding resistance and reducing the sinking depth of the test rod, which directly affects the measurement results

If operated in this way for a long time, the rapidly rotating mixing blades collide with the bottom of the pot, causing deformation of the pot body and blades.

(2) When testing mixing equipment, it is often found that some experimenters, in order to fully mix the cement at the bottom of the pot, often use their hands to support the mixing pot, making the mixing blades and the bottom of the pot directly contact for a few seconds.
